Job Description:

General Duties:

Assesses campus grounds for maintenance needs; Follows planned designs to determine where to plant or lay sod; Mows grass and trims weeds; Operates large power lawn mowers, edgers, hand tools, and large vehicles associated with grounds maintenance and landscaping activities; Plants seeds, bulbs, and foliage and applies mulch for protection using gardening tools; Places pine straw and mulches beds around trees and buildings; Applies herbicides and pesticides; Treats grounds for mosquitoes, fire ants, and other insects; Maintains grounds maintenance equipment; Collects trash and debris for disposal; Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as roofs, sidewalks, and entryways; Assists in the maintenance of parking lots and other surfaces, including asphalt repairs; Provides preventive maintenance to grounds areas; Performs all other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of South Georgia Technical College.

Education Requirements:

A High School diploma or GED.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of groundskeeping and basic horticultural practices; Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of grounds maintenance equipment; Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment; Skill in the analysis of problems and implementation of solutions; Oral and written communication skills; Ability to read and follow instructions; Ability to lift up to 40 pounds regularly; Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of related experience. Certification to oversee County Inmates.

Compensation:

Full-time position. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to push, pull, stoop, kneel, and crouch frequently; Walking and standing 4–8 hours; Must be able to grip, hold, and turn objects in his/her hands and have the ability to exert 50–100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25–49 lbs. of force frequently. Near Vision — The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
