Job Description:

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) - Georgia Academy for the Blind (GAB), is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Housekeeper in Macon, Georgia. Under close supervision, the Housekeeper maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout assigned facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining buildings, furnishings, and equipment; stocking supplies in common areas; moving furniture and equipment as needed; and performing general housekeeping duties in accordance with established procedures. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to providing a clean and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, dormitories, common areas, and other assigned facilities.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors and other surfaces.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and restock supplies as needed.
• Clean windows, doors, furniture, fixtures, and other assigned areas.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of custodial supplies and notify the supervisor when replenishment is needed.
• Follow all established safety, sanitation, and custodial procedures.
• Report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Assist with special cleaning projects and campus events as needed.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working around students and staff.
• Lift and move supplies, equipment, and materials weighing up to 30 pounds or more.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Previous housekeeping, custodial, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and use custodial products and supplies.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting.
• Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and professional environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

One (1) year of experience as a lead worker in a related area of assignment; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Housekeeper 2 (FES041) or position equivalent.
