Job Description:

The Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a 4-week residential summer program for skilled, knowledgeable, and talented high school sophomores and juniors. GHP offers instruction designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The instruction GHP provides is legislatively required to be significantly different from what is provided in a typical classroom. Duties & Responsibilities: The Tech for Mathematics works collaboratively with the instructors to broaden students’ exposure to various branches of mathematics. The Math Tech assists with instructional activities, technology integration, and student projects. Courses are tailored to reflect the diversity of both students and mathematics and offer challenges to students within their knowledge base. Topics range from computer programming to proof-oriented courses to application-oriented courses but are all concentrated on techniques of problem solving.


Topics of study have included:

● Art of Computer Programming

● Combinatorics

● Cryptology

● Data Structures

● Fractals

● Geometric Probability

● Group Theory

● Mathematical Modeling

● Music and Mathematics

● Non-Euclidean Geometry Geometry

● Probability and Statistics

● Proof techniques

● Sequences and Series


Note: GHP provides robust onboarding for our summer faculty and will provide as much information and guidance to support instructors as needed.


Schedule:

● The program runs from June 13, 2027– July 10, 2027. It is a 4-Week, Summer Residential Assignment at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA (on-campus housing and dining plan are also provided)

● The Math Tech will provide instruction assistance in the “major” discipline Monday – Saturday, and will provide instruction assistance in an elective area of study Monday-Friday.

● The Math Tech is required to attend paid staff orientation and training sessions in advance of the summer program, work collaboratively with discipline specific department staff on an ongoing basis; participate in outside-of-class activities when directed; and other assigned tasks related to the Governor’s Honors Program.

● A virtual training session will be held for new and returning faculty on Saturday, March 20th. The Math Tech must assist in preparing unit plans and/or a syllabus and course overviews that reflect a rigorous and engaging curriculum. The Math Tech must be able to maintain accurate records of attendance.


Minimum Training & Experience: Background of coursework in mathematics education, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related field; experience working with gifted high school students. High level of familiarity with mathematical technology and software.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Significant experience teaching gifted secondary learners

• Excellent organization skills

• Proven ability to provide a challenging and differentiated instructional experience to diverse learners

• Proven ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities

• Ability to participate in coaching and professional growth opportunities to improve instructional practice and to support others to improve their craft

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• High level of professional integrity
