Job Summary:
The Mental Health Judicial Liaison & Compliance Officer serves as the central bridge between Georgia’s criminal justice system, state psychiatric hospitals, and community-based mental health providers. Operating at the intersection of community corrections and behavioral health, this role monitors court-ordered compliance, conducts jail-based assessments, and coordinates reentry and diversion for justice-involved individuals with severe mental health diagnoses.
This specialized position focuses on individuals involved in state-mandated psychiatric programs, including Community Competency Restoration, Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) conditional releases, and individuals adjudicated Incompetent to Stand Trial and Not Restorable (IST-NR), and Over Objection (MOO).
If you are an experienced Community Supervision Officer, Probation/Parole Investigator, Forensic Social Worker, or Court Liaison looking to drive meaningful diversion and public safety without direct physical arrest duties, this role leverages your field expertise across a broader statewide impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Court Liaison & Forensic Compliance Oversight
- Monitor individuals under conditional release, civil commitment, or court bond conditions requiring behavioral health compliance.
- Serve as the agency’s subject-matter representative in superior, state, and accountability court hearings; provide structured compliance updates, case summaries, and violation reports to judges, prosecutors, and defense counsel.
- Maintain regular field and collateral contact with individuals, treatment providers, and community corrections partners to ensure adherence to psychiatric treatment and medication orders.
2. Jail Inreach, Forensic Diversion & Reentry Planning
- Conduct in-person status checks and forensic tracking inside county jails across Georgia for individuals awaiting admission to DBHDD forensic hospital facilities.
- Assess and coordinate with state and local partners to remove barriers to community stabilization (housing, benefits, medication continuity, intensive outpatient support) to expedite safe release and alternatives to extended incarceration or hospitalization.
- Coordinate cross-system logistics for hospital discharge, jail release, and community reintegration in coordination with local Community Service Boards (CSBs).
3. Crisis Intervention & Multi-Agency Coordination
- Serve as an organizational resource across law enforcement, local jails, community mental health providers, and state psychiatric hospitals.
- Identify early warning signs of psychiatric decompensation or non-compliance; coordinate urgent clinical intervention or notify court authorities before criminal violations occur.
- Conduct field-based checks, home visits, and site audits at community provider locations to ensure continuity of care.
4. Case Management & Program Tracking
- Maintain accurate case data and tracking for the statewide restoration and forensic compliance database.
- Compile and deliver structured progress reports, status alerts, and statistical updates to executive leadership within the Office of Mental Health Justice Programs.
Preferred Qualifications
(Candidates with backgrounds in community supervision, probation, or crisis intervention are strongly encouraged to apply.)
- Direct experience as a Georgia P.O.S.T. certified Community Supervision Officer (CSO II / CSO III), Probation Officer, Parole Officer, or Specialized Mental Health Caseload Officer.
- Formal training in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), Mental Health First Aid, or Trauma-Informed Care.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of Georgia’s forensic mental health statutes (O.C.G.A. Title 17-7-130 and 17-7-131 regarding Incompetency to Stand Trial and NGRI dispositions).
- Proven experience writing clear, objective compliance reports for judges, attorneys, and medical directors.
- Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, Social Work (MSW), Criminal Justice, or related behavioral health discipline.
What Sets This Role Apart

- Specialized Expertise: Gain deep exposure to statewide forensic psychiatry, legal proceedings, and executive agency policy.
- Comprehensive State Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, paid parental leave, flexible spending accounts, and Georgia State Retirement (ERSGA) pension benefits.
