Job Description:

Title: Payroll Specialist

Position: Savannah Technical College is seeking a Payroll Specialist responsible for coordinating and managing payroll operations. This position requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring that payroll, benefits, and related accounting functions are processed accurately and timely.

Duties:

· Reviews payroll data for accuracy and enters payroll transactions and related data into the accounting system.

· Reviews and reconciles payroll records, identifies errors, and makes necessary corrections.

· Analyzes periodic reports and reconciles information with related records, including health insurance, retirement benefits, and other benefit reports.

· Processes third-party requests involving employee wages, including garnishments, tax levies, bankruptcies, and child support withholdings.

· Serves as the primary contact with ADP regarding tax remittance and reporting, including out-of-state tax matters. Retrieves ADP tax reports and provides related information to Accounts Payable.

· Maintains payroll records and related files in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.

· Assigns payroll expense coding in consultation with the Grant Accountant and the Vice President for Administrative Services.

· Audits payroll transactions and postings to ensure accuracy and compliance with established procedures.

· Computes, reconciles, and corrects payroll-related balances and discrepancies.

· Conducts research and prepares reports, statements, and summaries related to payroll and employee benefit accounts.

· Assists in the development, implementation, and revision of payroll policies and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations.

· Reviews weekly timesheets for accuracy and appropriate accounting treatment. Ensures employee time is submitted timely and approved by supervisors.

· Ensures compliance with federal and state payroll laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

· Completes routine payroll-related forms and filings, including unemployment certifications and employment verifications.

· Advises employees and retirees regarding benefit programs, tax withholding options, payroll-related regulations, payroll deductions, deferred compensation programs, and other payroll-related matters.

· Performs other duties as assigned. Based on qualifications and organizational needs, additional responsibilities may include accounting and/or human resources functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree *and* three (3) years of payroll or related accounting experience

Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

· Accounting or Human Resources Degree

· Experience with Workday Accounting System

· Prior TCSG or State of Georgia Payroll Experience

· Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.

· Excellent customer service and communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

· Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical Demands:

Responsibilities are typically performed in an office setting with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling. The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Full range of hand and finger motion is necessary for data entry purposes.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
