Job Description:

The Georgia Job ChalleNGe Academy (GA JCA) is a five-month residential program that provides recent graduates of the Georgia Youth ChalleNGe Program an opportunity to receive vocation training in a Youth Challenge, military-like, environment. GA JCA offers students vocational training at local technical schools and related job skills training designed to prepare them for successful employment or continuation of their education and training upon completion of the program. In addition, students receive academic support to complete their GED or High School Diploma.

GA JCA students enroll in vocational and technical courses at Savannah Technical College and Coastal Pines Technical College. Georgia Youth Challenge Program graduates who are selected for the Georgia Job Challenge Academy will receive a scholarship to cover the costs of meals, transportation, housing, tuition, and other fees associated with enrollment.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES OF THE POST-RESIDENTIAL COORDINATOR:

  • Plans and conducts training, with individuals and groups.

  • Follows lesson plans and teaches life coping skills – particularly job skills including resume writing, completing job applications, and all associated job acquisition skills;

  • Serves as mentor and mentee campus liaison, including preparing passes, correspondence, and monthly reports;

  • Inputs pertinent information into database;

  • Understands and implements procedures, which would satisfy the Youth Challenge Cooperative Agreement requirements;

  • Promotes and fosters mentor and mentee relationship;

  • Participates as team member and provides input in Associate Improvement Plans;

  • Participates in extracurricular activities as needed.

  • Plans and implements student recruitment and selection.

  • Assists with placement and progress tracking.

  • Research and collaborate with business partnership to offer youth/associate community services and career opportunities.

The selected candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule when needed, which may include evenings and weekends.

Possession of a valid drivers license is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications: Further consideration may also be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, also possess a combination of the following:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Social Services or related field with one year of relevant experience.

  • Two years of experience with at-risk youth, ages 15-19 years old;

  • Basic computer software usage skills

Additional Information:

The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a Georgia and national criminal records search, a pre-employment drug test (post-hire will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program), AND a post-employment federal background investigation.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of job-related experience providing education, social or direct care services to persons with diagnosed special needs, or other populations; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Training/Employment Tech 1 (SST050) or position equivalent.
