The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking a psychiatrist to provide and help guide care for adults receiving inpatient mental health and/or forensic services at Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta.

Depending on the assigned program, the psychiatrist may serve adults receiving acute inpatient treatment, longer-term recovery services, competency-restoration treatment, or treatment following an adjudication of not guilty by reason of insanity.

What you will do

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing clinical assessments.
• Diagnose psychiatric conditions and develop individualized, evidence-informed treatment plans.
• Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medications in accordance with accepted clinical standards and DBHDD policies.
• Lead or actively participate in multidisciplinary treatment- and recovery-planning meetings.
• Collaborate with psychologists, nurses, social workers, counselors, rehabilitation professionals, pharmacists, primary-care providers, and community partners.
• Complete clinical documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
• Support continuity of care and safe transitions to community-based services or less restrictive settings.
• Participate in assigned medical-staff, quality-improvement, peer-review, or hospital committees.

Your practice environment

Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta (GRHA) is located on 174 acres in DeKalb County and operates 334 licensed, accredited inpatient beds for three major program areas: 1) Adult Mental Health, 2) Forensic Services, and 3) Developmental Disabilities / Skilled Nursing.

GRHA collaborates with the Region 3 Field Office and community providers in extending an effective continuum of care to people living in these service areas. Together, we seek to ensure continuity of services, thereby helping those hospitalized to retain the gains they achieve while at GRHA. GRHA serves many indigent and homeless individuals. No one is refused admission to the hospital because of an inability to pay for services. Once individuals are discharged, the hospital bills them according to their ability to pay for services received.

GRHA is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Our hospital places a strong emphasis on the culture of the people we serve and endorses DBHDD’s values, mission and vision.

Required qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited or otherwise appropriately recognized medical school.
• Successful completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program.
• Current unrestricted Georgia medical license, or eligibility to obtain one by the required start date.
• Board eligibility or board certification in psychiatry.
• Ability to obtain required medical-staff credentials, controlled-substance registrations, and other authorizations applicable to the position.
• Ability to satisfy all applicable pre-employment and employment requirements.

Preferred qualifications

• Board certification in psychiatry.
• Board certification in forensic psychiatry, when relevant to the assignment.
• Experience treating adults with serious and persistent mental illness.
• Inpatient psychiatric or forensic psychiatric experience.
• Experience leading or participating in interdisciplinary treatment teams.
• Experience with competency restoration, criminal forensic populations, or court-related psychiatric services, when applicable.
• Commitment to person-centered, recovery-oriented, and evidence-informed care.

Compensation

• Board-Eligible Psychiatrist: $224,400 annually
• Board-Certified Psychiatrist: $260,400 annually
• Forensic Board-Certified Psychiatrist: $272,400 annually
• On-call coverage: Optional and compensated separately

Salary placement is based on the candidate’s board-certification status at the time of appointment. Professional liability insurance is provided for work performed on behalf of DBHDD.
