The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking a licensed Psychologist to conduct psychological reviews and assessments associated with Georgia's New Options Waiver (NOW) and Comprehensive Supports Waiver (COMP) programs.

This is a unique opportunity for a psychologist who enjoys assessment work and wants the flexibility of a part-time professional position. The role combines field-based assessments with the ability to complete reports from a home office.

The position pays $92.00 per hour for approximately 25-30 hours per week. Travel time and authorized travel expenses are paid by the State of Georgia, and DBHDD provides the equipment needed to perform the job, including a laptop, printer, and cell phone.

The Opportunity

The Psychologist will support DBHDD’s pre-eligibility and level-of-care review processes for the NOW and COMP Medicaid waiver programs by applying psychological expertise to the review of developmental, psychological, adaptive, behavioral, and medical information. The Psychologist will serve Georgians with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing timely, clinically sound psychological reviews and assessments that support DBHDD’s NOW/COMP waiver eligibility process.

The Psychologist will complete initial and level of care psychological reviews of developmental records, psychological assessment, and medical records to provide clinical psychological review of applications for the Georgia's New Options Waiver (NOW) and Comprehensive Supports Waiver (COMP) programs. The Psychologist may travel to various locations within an approximately 35-county service area to conduct in-person and, when clinically appropriate and operationally feasible, virtual psychological assessments. The Psychologist will complete written consultation and/or assessment reports for initial and level of care evaluations from their home office.

The position provides an opportunity to use your clinical and assessment expertise while helping individuals with I/DD access appropriate services and supports through Georgia's Medicaid waiver programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Travel to locations throughout the assigned service area to conduct psychological assessments.
• Conduct professional evaluations of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Review relevant clinical, developmental, behavioral, medical,  and other available records as part of the assessment process.
• Administer and interpret appropriate psychological assessment instruments.
• Assess and document relevant psychological and adaptive functioning.
• Prepare clear, comprehensive, and professionally written evaluation reports.
• Complete the written portion of evaluations from a home office.
• Provide clinical findings and recommendations based on assessment results.
• Complete evaluations and required documentation in accordance with applicable DBHDD and Medicaid requirements.
• Collaborate with DBHDD staff and other professionals involved in the evaluation process.
• Maintain appropriate professional, ethical, and confidentiality standards.

Travel and Work Location

This is a hybrid position that combines in-person and virtual psychological assessments, psychological record review and consultation, and report writing from a home office.

The Psychologist may travel to locations to conduct assessments or attend fair hearings. Because travel is an essential part of the position, candidates should be comfortable traveling regularly throughout the assigned service area.

Travel time is paid, and authorized travel expenses are reimbursed by the State of Georgia in accordance with applicable state travel policies.

After completing assessments in the field, the Psychologist may complete the written portion of evaluation reports from their home office.

DBHDD provides the equipment necessary to perform the position, including a laptop, printer, and cell phone.

About the NOW and COMP Waiver Programs

Georgia's New Options Waiver (NOW) and Comprehensive Supports Waiver (COMP) programs provide Medicaid-funded home- and community-based services to eligible individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The programs help individuals with I/DD receive services and support that enable them to live and participate in their homes and communities.

The assessments performed by the Psychologist contribute to the evaluation process associated with these important services.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current, unrestricted license as a Psychologist in the State of Georgia and eligibility to practice independently.
• Professional experience providing psychological assessment and evaluation services.
• Demonstrated experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
• Experience administering and interpreting standardized measures of intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior.
• Ability to integrate psychological testing, developmental history, adaptive functioning, behavioral/clinical information, and records to formulate professional opinions.
• Ability to prepare clear, comprehensive psychological reports and consultation documentation.
• Ability to independently manage assigned referrals and complete required evaluations and documentation within established timelines.
• Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned service area and provide in-person and virtual assessment services, as appropriate.

Preferred:

• Experience assessing, I/DD across the lifespan, from early childhood through adulthood.
• Experience with developmental disability, autism, intellectual disability, and/or adaptive behavior assessment.
• Experience evaluating individuals with complex developmental, behavioral, psychiatric, or medical presentations.
• Experience with Medicaid waiver programs, eligibility determination, level-of-care assessment, or other disability-related service systems.
• Experience providing psychological consultation related to developmental disability and service eligibility.

Compensation and Employment Status

Part-time employee at an Hourly Rate of $92.00

Schedule: 25-30 hours per week

This is a part-time, hourly position. Because this is not a full-time position, it does not receive the same benefits package available to full-time State of Georgia employees. Eligibility for any applicable benefits is determined by State of Georgia employment requirements and the employee's classification.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to applicable State of Georgia and DBHDD employment requirements, including any required background checks.

This is temporary or hourly paid work performing professional health care services. Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513). Positions in this job are established for greater than 9 months and scheduled for greater than 30 hours per week if the position status is permanent labor (i.e., SCOA 512). Normally permanent labor positions are eligible for Health Insurance benefits.
