Campus Police Officer – Part-Time

Campus: Americus

General Duties

Under general supervision, the Campus Police Officer performs a full range of law enforcement and public safety duties to maintain security and order on the South Georgia Technical College campus.

Duties include patrolling and monitoring campus buildings and grounds; responding to alarms, disturbances, criminal complaints, accidents, fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies; investigating incidents and preparing reports; enforcing applicable laws, regulations, and college policies; and coordinating with the Georgia State Patrol and other local and state law enforcement agencies as needed.

The Campus Police Officer may apprehend suspects, assist with emergency and crisis response activities, inspect facilities and equipment for safety or security concerns, provide escorts and personal protection, direct traffic during special events, provide security for college events, participate in emergency and disaster drills, and perform other duties as assigned.

The officer must maintain all required Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and meet applicable training requirements.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Georgia P.O.S.T. certification required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to operate computers and job-related software.
  • Ability to prepare accurate incident and activity reports in accordance with established procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with students, employees, visitors, and the public.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to patrol assigned areas and identify potential safety, security, and unlawful activity.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to differentiate between colors.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with proof of insurability.
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) years of law enforcement experience preferred.

Schedule Requirements

This is a shift position. Candidates must be available to work different shifts on different days based on departmental needs, including:

  • 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
  • 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Candidates must be able and willing to work any of the above shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

This is a part-time, temporary position and will not exceed 25 hours per week.

Background Requirements

Candidates must successfully complete:

  • Criminal background check
  • Fingerprinting
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Drug screening

Compensation

$25.00 per hour

This is a part-time, temporary position, with a maximum of 25 hours per week.
