Under limited supervision, performs duties as a GPSTC instructor for training delivery to public safety personnel and participates in the research and design of statewide training programs. Provides training and evaluation or directs the provision of training and evaluation for public safety personnel, including training on advanced and specialized topics. Performs training needs assessment, research, and evaluation for training programs having regional or statewide impact. Directs professional staff in the development, review, and revision of statewide public safety training programs. May supervise and coach less experienced instructors.
Description of Duties & Responsibilities: Instructs public safety training in basic, advanced, and specialized topics. Participates in needs assessment, research, design, and evaluation of statewide public safety training programs. Demonstrates teamwork and a high degree of customer service. This position may be assigned to the Central Georgia area.
Minimum Qualifications: Eighteen months of work experience as an instructor providing training development and delivery in public safety related topics OR minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in law enforcement, of which three years involved providing diversified training development and delivery as an adjunct instructor and/or departmental training officer. Possession of Georgia P.O.S.T. General Instructor certification or its equivalent. Must currently be in good standing with Georgia P.O.S.T.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum training and experience requirements, possess one or more of the following:
• Possess Georgia P.O.S.T certification for Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and/or Use of Force Instructor.
Required Certifications/Probation Period: Employee is required to successfully obtain their required certifications, e.g., Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Use of Force Instructor, etc. within 6 months of hire. Failure to complete certification(s) may result in disciplinary action.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED AND Four years of work experience in law enforcement, firefighting, EMS, rescue services, or 911 Communications. Two years of work experience as a full-time instructor in peace officer, fire service, EMS, rescue topics, or 911 communications topics applicable to area of assignment, OR Four years providing diversified training development and delivery applicable to the area of assignment as an adjunct instructor on special assignment. Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire Georgia P.O.S.T. instructor certification and any other specialty instructor certification applicable to the area of assignment.
