Job Summary:
This position is located within the Georgia Department of Agriculture Laboratory Division and serves as the Quality Assurance Specialist for two laboratory sections located at the Atlanta laboratory location.
The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of the Quality Management System for the Laboratory Division, in particular the maintenance of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, as well as other types of accreditations.
Daily tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Document Control (managing, editing, publishing documents through the QMS)
- Internal Audits (performing monthly internal audits as well as follow-up audits)
- Maintaining records online and onsite (calibration, uniformity and stability, temperature monitoring, etc.)
- Assesses risks in the laboratory and documents them
- Participates in and records nonconformance corrective actions
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and documents them
- Assists other QA Staff, Assistant Lab Division Director, and Lab Division Director with assigned tasks
- Assists Laboratory Program Managers (in Atlanta and Tifton) with quality assurance tasks.
- Assists with assessments by external accrediting bodies
- Must communicate effectively with laboratory staff
- Must meet project deadlines in a timely manner
- Accepts responsibility for mistakes and takes actions to correct and prevent similar occurrences.
- Accepts directions and feedback from supervisors and managers and follows through appropriately.
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
- Standing and moving for extended periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience assessing quality in a lab setting
- Excellent reading comprehension, receptivity to training, ability to follow specific instructions, and attention to detail
- Very good interpersonal skills
- Safety consciousness and attentive to lab hygiene
- Excellent organization skills and time management
- General knowledge of testing procedures in multiple fields (microbiology, chemistry, etc.)
- Communicate effectively with staff.
- Working knowledge of Windows computer operating systems and applications including Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications:
