Under supervision, performs a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order in a detention facility educational setting. Supervises, guides and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. Coordinates the activities and operations of an assigned region of school resource officers. Directs subordinate staff.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform all law enforcement related duties in a highly professional manner consistent with established procedures and directives.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, general orders, policies, and procedures; assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations.
- Supervises and plans the work of assigned staff and ensures conformity with department policies and procedures.
- Provides direction and guidance to subordinates and assists with completing annual performance evaluations.
- Position oversees the North region and supervises personnel in all the above-mentioned job duties.
- May be called to fill in for the Region Manager with other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T. certification and five years of law enforcement experience as a uniformed officer
- Or One year of experience required at the lower-level Police Officer 3 (PSP122) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in one of the following areas: Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology or related field.
- GAPOST certified instructor
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, kneeling, bending and crawling.
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in one of the following areas: Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology or related field.
- A minimum of six (6) consecutive years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the capacity of supervising law enforcement personnel.
- 3 or more years of experience in a secure detention facility environment.
- One or more years of experience as a School Resource Officer.
Agency Requirement:
- GA P.O.S.T. certified peace officer (PBLE) in good standing as defined by GAPOST Council.
Physical Agility Standards:
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding activities associated with maintaining safety and security within our secured facilities and community settings. Candidates must be capable of meeting agency-established physical agility standards and may be required to successfully complete a validated physical agility assessment before hiring and at other intervals as required by agency policy.
The Department of Juvenile Justice reserves the right to modify physical agility standards and testing requirements as necessary to meet operational, legal, accreditation, certification, or safety requirements.
