Under general supervision, the School Resource Officer (SRO) Supervisor is responsible for supervising School Resource Officers assigned to Department of Juvenile Justice educational facility. This position oversees daily security operations, ensures compliance with agency policies and procedures, promotes a safe and secure learning environment, and serves as a liaison among students, school administrators, parents, local law enforcement agencies, and DJJ staff. The SRO Supervisor provides leadership, mentoring, and operational guidance while supporting the Department's mission of public safety and youth rehabilitation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Supervise, direct, and evaluate the performance of assigned School Resource Officers.
· Conduct daily briefings and assign work priorities to SRO staff.
· Ensure all School Resource Officers maintain professional appearance, wear the required uniform, and are equipped with an operable body-worn camera and department-issued firearm.
· Develop and implement educational programs and presentations that promote respect for the law, responsible citizenship, violence prevention, and positive relationships between youth and law enforcement.
· Assist school administrators with developing and maintaining comprehensive school safety and emergency response plans.
· Coordinate with the Operations Support Manager (OSM) regarding student transportation, arrival and dismissal procedures, and breakfast and lunch operations.
· Monitor school campuses for criminal activity, safety hazards, and policy violations, including vandalism, theft, trespassing, and other security concerns.
· Respond to incidents requiring law enforcement intervention and coordinate with local law enforcement agencies when arrests or additional assistance are necessary.
· Prepare, review, and submit incident reports and ensure all required supporting documentation, including Student Incident Reports (SIRs), witness statements, and other investigative documents, is complete and submitted in a timely manner.
· Conduct preliminary investigations and gather information related to incidents occurring on school property.
· Participate in student review meetings, parent conferences, Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings when applicable, staff meetings, and new student orientations to promote positive student behavior and school attendance.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, faculty, community stakeholders, and law enforcement partners.
· Ensure officers maintain accurate daily activity logs and review logbooks for completeness and compliance.
· Conduct daily inspections of school grounds and perform final security checks of buildings and surrounding property after school hours.
· Provide leadership and direction during emergency situations and critical incidents.
· Apply DJJ policies and procedures to distinguish between student disciplinary matters handled administratively by school personnel and criminal or safety-related incidents requiring law enforcement action.
· Testify in juvenile, criminal, and administrative court proceedings as required.
· Provide guidance, mentoring, and on-the-job training to School Resource Officers.
· Assist with security operations during school functions, special events, graduations, and emergency situations.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED.
· Current Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
· Three (3) years of sworn law enforcement experience.
· Valid Georgia driver's license.
· Ability to legally possess and carry a department-issued firearm.
Physical Agility Standards:
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding activities associated with maintaining safety and security within our secured facilities and community settings. Candidates must be capable of meeting agency-established physical agility standards and may be required to successfully complete a validated physical agility assessment before hiring and at other intervals as required by agency policy.
The Department of Juvenile Justice reserves the right to modify physical agility standards and testing requirements as necessary to meet operational, legal, accreditation, certification, or safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Public Administration, Education, or a closely related field.
· Previous experience as a School Resource Officer.
· Supervisory or leadership experience in a law enforcement environment.
· Experience working with juveniles or within a school setting.
· Experience with incident investigations and report writing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of Georgia criminal law, juvenile justice practices, and school safety principles.
· Knowledge of DJJ policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
· Ability to supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions under pressure.
· Ability to establish positive working relationships with young people, school personnel, parents, and community partners.
· Proficiency in preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.
· Ability to respond effectively during emergencies and critical incidents.
Working Conditions
· Work is performed in educational facility.
· Position requires standing, walking, climbing stairs, and responding to emergency situations.
· Must qualify and maintain proficiency with all required law enforcement equipment and weapons.
