Start your career in public service.  The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS), Office of Family Independence (OFI) is seeking candidates for the position of Social Services Program Consultant Supervisor (Field Program Specialist (FPS) Supervisor) for the TANF Services Unit.

The location of the position will be determined by the Director of Management Evaluation with consideration being given to the incumbent’s place of residence.

Job Description

Pay Grade: L

This position will manage a team of TANF ESPS specialists team members. Provide oversight PAMMS updates, ensure coverage for required meetings (internal and external).  Provides oversight for policy changes and work directly with the district. Supervises guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. May participate in special projects. 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Managing professional level assigned staff.
  • Interpreting and implementing federal and state policy.
  • Work collaboratively with different levels of leadership and staff, productively, effectively, and professionally.
  • Manage broad and complex subject matters as well as the staff who perform the duties within each subject area.
  • Manages human resource and employee relations functions. 
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationship with OFI district leadership, assures coordination of services, and increases public awareness and support.
  • Organize and monitor training as needed.
  • Ensures uniform interpretation of TANF Program policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of the Georgia Gateway system.
  • Assist with policy updates as needed.
  • Assist with establishing program goals, strategies and priorities.
  • Make recommendations for policy/procedure development and/or revision and advocate for changes as appropriate.
  • Monitors area and local services for compliance and quality assurance. 
  • Provide programmatic guidance to field and vendor staff.
  • Responds accurately and promptly to informational requests regarding the TANF Program, services and related issues.
  • Perform other professional responsibilities as assigned and statewide travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional job-related experience, which includes two (2) years in a lead worker, team leader, or supervisory role.

OR

  • One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Social Services Program Consultant 3 (SSP042) or position equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience.

  • Master’s Degree in a related field from an approved, accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years or more of supervisory experience.
  • Two (2) years or more direct TANF knowledge experience.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or standard software applications typically used in a corporate office environment.
