POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Student Retention Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Student Retention Specialist plays a vital role in supporting student success and persistence at the College. This position proactively engages students who may be at risk of withdrawing, helping them navigate challenges, connect with resources, and stay on track toward their academic and career goals. The Specialist also serves as the primary point of contact for early alerts and student concern reports, ensuring timely follow up and coordinated support across campus.

MAJOR DUTIES:

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & RETENTION

  • Initiate proactive outreach to students identified as at risk of disengagement or withdrawal.
  • Provide individualized guidance, encouragement, and referrals to academic and student support services.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships that foster belonging, confidence, and persistence.

EARLY ALERT & CASE MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor and respond to early alerts and concern inquiries submitted by faculty and staff.
  • Review, triage, and route alerts to the appropriate staff or office for intervention.
  • Track alerts, referrals, follow-ups, and outcomes to ensure timely and effective student support.

COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION

  • Partner with faculty, advisors, admission counselors, financial aid specialists, and other student services staff to coordinate interventions.
  • Clearly communicate available resources and next steps to students in a supportive and approachable manner.
  • Share trends, insights, and updates with College leadership to strengthen retention strategies and student success initiatives across the college.

DATA & RECORDKEEPING

  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of student interactions, referrals, and outcomes.
  • Use tracking systems and reporting tools to support institutional retention initiatives.
  • Identify patterns or trends that may inform future student success strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree and three (3) years of related work experience.
    • Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience in student services or student support roles preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
  • Experience in an educational environment or related student support role.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Resides in one of Chattahoochee Technical College’s service area counties.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $45,301.59 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.

TELEWORK: This position may be permitted to telework at least two days or 40% of a 5 day/40-hour work week.
