Albany Technical College seeks a part-time Titan Café Cashier and Expediter. Under general supervision, the employee will support the daily operations of the Titan Café by providing courteous and efficient customer service, accurately processing cash and electronic transactions through the point-of-sale system, issuing receipts, maintaining an orderly cashier station, and balancing the cash drawer as required. As an expediter, the employee will coordinate the timely and accurate preparation and distribution of customer orders, verify orders for completeness and quality, communicate with kitchen staff, package food items, restock service supplies, and ensure that orders are delivered promptly. The employee will assist with opening and closing procedures, maintain a clean and sanitary service area, follow all applicable food-safety and cash-handling procedures, and support inventory activities as needed. This position may require day or evening hours, depending on the operational needs of the café and College. The employee will report directly to the Titan Café Manager and, administratively, to the Academic Dean and will perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent and previous experience in a restaurant, cafeteria, retail, or other food-service environment are required. The applicant must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to accurately perform basic cash-handling duties. A current ServSafe Food Handler certification is required or must be obtained prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications: A diploma or associate degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Restaurant Management, or a related field is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include at least three years of recent food-service experience; prior experience as a cashier, expediter, or front-of-house employee; proficiency with point-of-sale systems; knowledge of food-safety and sanitation standards, and current ServSafe certification.
Physical Demands: Work is primarily performed in cafeteria and kitchen environments and requires prolonged standing and walking. The employee must frequently bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and use repetitive hand and wrist movements when operating the point-of-sale system, preparing orders, and handling food-service items. The position requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. The employee must also be able to work safely around hot surfaces, kitchen equipment, food products, and wet or slippery floors.
Salary/Benefits: This position pays $15.00 per hour. This is a part-time position and does not include insurance benefits. Work hours will not exceed 29 per week, and the work schedule may include evening hours.
