As a Transportation Specialist at the HOPE Center, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Transportation Specialist provides professional customer service while safely transporting clients and/or packages to designated locations in a timely manner. Responsibilities include planning efficient routes, maintaining schedules, supporting administrative pickup and delivery needs, ensuring vehicle readiness and maintenance, and maintaining accurate mileage and service records while interacting professionally with internal and external customers.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Transport clients and/or packages to and from destinations.
  • Arrive at destinations on schedule.
  • Fulfill administrative needs, like office pickups.
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction and weather delays.
  • Use navigation applications to determine the best route.
  • Always maintain professional and courteous communication with clients.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always fueled and ready for use.
  • Arrange for vehicle repairs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date mileage and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned. Responsibilities and essential functions may change to meet organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and six (6) months of experience in the operation of heavy equipment and large vehicles such as bulldozers, frontend loaders, ditchers, road graders, dump trucks, drilling equipment, and heavy-duty trucks or position equivalent.

Note: Candidates selected for further consideration will be required to submit a seven (7)-year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)/Driving History Report before an offer of employment is made. To be eligible for employment, the MVR must show no major traffic violations, license suspensions, or at-fault accidents within the past seven (7) years.

Additional Information

The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in transportation and valid driver's license with clean motor vehicle report; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Ground Transp Worker 2 (TRS011) or position equivalent. --Note: Some positions may require two years of experience operating heavy equipment and large vehicles such as bulldozers, frontend loaders, ditchers, road graders, dump trucks, drilling equipment, and heavy-duty trucks.
