The Georgia Department of Labor is currently seeking highly qualified applicants to fill the UI Appeals Manager – Staff Support position in the UI Appeals Department. 

The position is located at 148 Andrew Young International Blvd. NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30303.

The UI Appeals Manager performs a variety of functions related to the hearing and disposition of contested Unemployment Insurance cases adjudicated by the Tribunal.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  • Directs staff activities via subordinate supervisors to ensure program performance measures are met. 
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations and department policies and procedures.
  • Supervises, guides and/or provides instruction for the work assignments of subordinate staff.   
  • Manages a wide range of office administration duties for assigned function or program areas, duties may be complex in nature and may involve access to confidential information.   
  • Recommends policies, develops and implements procedures in accordance with department al policy. 
  • Creates, plans and monitors training of subordinate staff. 
  • Researches, investigates, and/or reports program data or issues.
  • Drafts documents, reports, or presentations. 
  • Represents program or unit, provides information and assistance to internal and external customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience supervising or training claims examiner 

And/Or 

  • Two or more years experience handling or processing appeals related to unemployment insurance claims 
  • Three or more years of customer service experience 

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to lead or supervise several teams at once
  • Exceptional communications skills 
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Independent problem solver
  • Well organized with excellent computer skills (intermediate or higher in Microsoft Word and Excel)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years in a managerial or supervisory role in the area of assignment; or six (6) years of experience in the area of assignment, including three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory role.
