Job Summary**
This role provides essential field service and support to veterans, their dependents, and survivors, assisting them in understanding and applying for benefits and services available through federal, state, and local programs. The incumbent acts as a direct point of contact, offering guidance, advocacy, and resource navigation.
Job Responsibilities**
* Conduct intake interviews with veterans and their families to assess needs and determine eligibility for various benefits.
* Explain complex federal, state, and local veterans' benefits and services, ensuring clear understanding.
* Assist veterans in completing and submitting applications, forms, and required documentation for benefits such as compensation, pension, healthcare, education, and housing.
* Advocate on behalf of veterans with federal, state, and local agencies to resolve issues and expedite claims processing.
* Provide information and referrals to other veteran support organizations, community resources, and specialized services.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records of veteran interactions, applications, and case progress.
* Participate in outreach activities to inform the veteran community about available services and programs.
* Stay current on changes in veterans' laws, regulations, and benefit programs.
* Prepare and present reports on service delivery and veteran engagement as required.
Job Qualifications**
* High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local veterans' benefits and programs, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathize and build rapport with veterans and their families.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to learn specialized databases.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required for field visits and outreach activities.
* Prior experience working with veterans or in a social service capacity is highly desirable.
