Job Description:

Job Opening: Forester – Water Quality Specialist (NRP023)

Pay: $62,470.46 or 10% increase, whichever is greater (no pay adjustment for lateral transfers)

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Coordinate Forest Water Quality Program within a multi-Region area. Administer federal grants. Perform BMP Assurance Exams and BMP Surveys. Develop forestry demonstration areas. Conduct Forest Water Quality training for GFC personnel. Conduct Master Timber Harvester and Continuing Logger Education workshops. Provide input on State, Regional, and National Forest Water Quality issues. Provide information for annual Forest Water Quality Report.

Work duties include:

• Represent the agency building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, cooperators, and the public to cultivate a spirit of cooperation and communication.
• Compile reports and make presentations on regional accomplishments to a wide audience.
• Provide technical assistance, education, and outreach to non-industrial private forest landowners, forestry professionals, etc...
• Plan and conduct landowner meetings, workshops, and field days.
• Train field staff and private sector personnel on Georgia Best Management Practices and provide other training as needed.
• Promote and recognize best management practices across the region, especially loggers doing great work on the landscape.
• Assist Water Quality Coordinator on special projects as needed.
• Perform administrative responsibilities, including monthly and yearly reporting.

Minimum requirements: Completion of bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or other forestry major which includes core forestry coursework, from an SAF accredited school AND two years of experience at the Forester 2 (NRP021) level and/or higher or position equivalent. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; public speaking skills; well versed in MS Office programs, including PowerPoint. Overnight travel occasionally within and outside the state.

Preferred qualifications: Completion of bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or closely related major which includes core forestry coursework, from an SAF accredited school and four years of experience at the Forester 3 (NRP022), with 1 year of forestry BMP water quality experience. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; public speaking skills; well versed in MS Office programs, including PowerPoint. Overnight travel occasionally within and outside the state.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree relevant to the specific subprogram area from an Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited college or university can be substituted for two of the three years of job related forestry experience OR Bachelor's degree in forestry, forest resources, or closely related area that includes core forestry coursework from an Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited college or university AND Three years of job related forestry experience OR One year of experience required at the lower level Forester 3 (NRP022) or position equivalent.
