Note: Criminal Investigator roles in OSI are not eligible for line-of-duty benefits. 

Note: Criminal Investigators are assigned to a particular district and may work out of one of several regional offices, reporting to a Criminal Investigator Supervisor (ASAC) or Manager of Investigations (SAC). 

The Position

The Criminal Investigator 2 and 3 serve as a sworn law enforcement professional responsible for conducting criminal, administrative, and background investigations while supporting agency-wide security operations. The positions  works collaboratively with local, state, and federal partners to protect Department personnel, facilities, and assets through proactive investigations and security initiatives.

The Key Responsibilities

• Conduct criminal, administrative, and internal investigations.
• Perform comprehensive pre-employment and employee background investigations.
• Obtain fingerprints and process employment-related criminal history records using Livescan technology.
• Prepare detailed investigative reports and maintain case documentation.
• Coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
• Support physical security initiatives for Department facilities.
• Manage employee identification badges and building access credentials.
• Assist with fleet management, vehicle assignments, fuel card accountability, and Quartermaster operations.
• Assist with the seizure, storage, and auction of condemned property.
• Perform additional investigative and security-related duties as assigned.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

The Minimum Entry Qualifications

Criminal Investigator 2

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, Georgia P.O.S.T. certification, AND One year of related experience; OR Georgia P.O.S.T. certification AND three years of experience in law enforcement or related field; OR Georgia P.O.S.T. certification AND one year of experience required at the lower-level Criminal Investigator 1 (PSP090) or position

equivalent. 

Criminal Investigator 3

Bachelor's degree in any related field from an accredited college or university, Georgia P.O.S.T. certification AND two years of experience in a related field; OR Georgia P.O.S.T. certification AND four years of experience in law enforcement or related field; OR Georgia P.O.S.T. certification AND One year of experience required at the lower-level Criminal Investigator 2 (PSP091) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license. Teamwork and Cooperation: Demonstrated ability to promote and work in a team atmosphere, be inclusive of all team members, and work well with co-workers & leadership 

• Judgment and Decision Making: Demonstrated ability to weigh the needs of the taxpayers and the department to decide the best course of action for all parties 
• Accountability: Demonstrated ability to accept responsibility for one’s actions with honesty and integrity, while maintaining credibility and remaining committed to organizational success 

• Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to appropriately address internal & external customer issues while respecting business needs Good verbal and written communication skills 

• Results Orientation: Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines to achieve performance goals, while focused on efficient & effective problem resolution 

• The ability to interpret tax laws, policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to tax collection 

• Georgia POST Certification

The Preferred Criteria:

• GCIC Certification 

• Certified Peace Officer 

• Familiar with Livescan fingerprinting system 

• Three years law enforcement experience
